Almost without exception, meaningful and beautiful art must be created in the wake of chaos, or at least at the end of a journey, and Glass Canvas is no exception.

The world found out that David had pipes when he was 7 years old. He was that annoying little boy that would sing every single infectious song on the radio, at the top of his lungs, while the family was driving across the Midwest. Coming from a working-class family, his musicianship was seldom encouraged, and though he taught himself to play guitar/piano/harmonica/bass/percussion at a young age, the pressures of modern life and a total lack of moula led him to momentarily give up his passion and study languages and teaching.

He was bit by the ubiquitous travel bug and then left for Japan and Argentina, leaving his former soul behind. But the urge to make music just wouldn’t stop and so he would go jam with street musicians in Tokyo, or in churches and street corners in Buenos Aires, anywhere people would gather and tap their feet to an infectious melody. Eventually he had written enough songs that people requested a concert. And so he gave in. The universe’s muse would not leave him alone, and David know that music was calling to him. It needed him to write those real unique songs that noone else could, the ones that are born out of authentic pure-hearted experience, the ones that leave you hooked, wondering what was really meant, and yet mesmerized by everything left unsaid.

And if he was going to make the music he was hearing in his head, he had to learn to do it himself. So he did, over the course of several years, while juggling his career as a linguist, a family that moved internationally twice, and three precious little kids who take so much energy, but give back generously.

Life brought him back to the U.S., in search of the right musicians, and he met Robyn and Gabriel, who shared his passion and vision for music, and the rest of the story has yet to be written.

And now we’ve discovered that we just can’t stop writing songs, making a musical documentary of our psyches, painting with detail brushes a shared experience, with music as our canvas. As we have discovered, putting down our brush only makes the music grow louder. And so we write on, setting our music free, while struggling to support our addiction to music and truth.
